Music in the Regions (MiTR):
Workplace Health and Safety Policy

We believe that safeguarding the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and stakeholders and communities in which we operate, who are affected by our activities, is essential. Our work is never so urgent or important that we cannot take the time to do it safely.

Scope

This policy applies to all current officers and employees, contractors, and volunteers, wherever work is being conducted including social gatherings associated with performances and events.

MitR has a primary duty of care under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act), to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, that MitR representatives and visitors are not exposed to health and safety risks arising from MitR business or undertakings.

Every MitR representative also recognises that:

  • they have a duty to exercise due diligence to ensure that MitR complies with the WHS Act and have a duty to consult and work together with venue managers and business partners to ensure work health and safety risks associated with MitR undertakings are eliminated or minimised, as is reasonably practicable;

  • they have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and to ensure they do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons; and

  • they must comply with any reasonable instructions or policy to ensure health and safety at MitR workplaces.

Policy

MitR aims to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, the health and safety of those engaged in its business and undertakings at its workplaces.

We will:

  • foster a strong health and safety culture;

  • train and develop our people with the necessary skills and knowledge for managing good safety performance;

  • consider WHS in project planning and all work activities and monitor so that risks are identified and eliminated or controlled;

  • consult and engage with MitR representatives in respect of WHS matters;

  • engage contractors who are competent and experienced;

  • meet all relevant WHS legislative requirements;

  • establish and monitor WHS targets and objectives to support continuous improvement;

  • encourage incident and safety reporting and engage to actively seek safety improvements; and

  • establish assurance processes to assess the effectiveness of processes and procedures.
